Introducing Hostwolf Apps

Deploy web apps, APIs and databases from GitHub on a server dedicated to your account, or choose a plain VPS.

Hostwolf Apps is hosting for web applications, APIs and databases on a server dedicated to your account. You choose the server, connect your code and manage deployments from a web console. Your applications share that server's resources with your own workloads, rather than applications belonging to other Hostwolf customers.

From GitHub to an HTTPS endpoint

A deployment starts with a GitHub repository. Create a project in the console, add the repository as an application and select its branch. Configure the build and start commands, the port your application listens on and any environment variables it needs.

The deployment system builds your application into a container image and starts it on your server. Build logs show dependency installation and compilation; runtime logs show what happens after the application starts. A successful build does not prove the application is healthy, so check its endpoint and logs before directing users to it.

Add a domain, point its DNS records at your server and configure HTTPS in the application settings. Certificate issuance depends on correct DNS and the server being reachable. A GitHub push can trigger another deployment when the repository integration and automatic deployments are configured.

Databases are separate resources. Create a PostgreSQL database, for example, and give the application its internal connection URL through an environment variable. Keep credentials out of the repository. Database storage persists separately from an application's container image, but it still needs backups and a tested recovery procedure.

Dedicated hosting or a plain VPS

Apps hosting provides the deployment panel, database resources, environment settings and logs. It suits teams that want to work from a repository and manage application resources through a browser.

The plain VPS option gives you root SSH access and control over your operating system and services. You handle installation, patching, firewall rules, deployment automation and backups yourself. Choose the option that matches the amount of server administration you want to take on.

Neither option removes resource limits. Leave capacity for builds and database activity, and measure memory, disk and CPU use before increasing the server size.

Monthly catalog pricing and regions

Billing is monthly, with server sizes and prices drawn from the catalog. The pricing section is the place to check the current options; this article does not freeze a price that may change. Compare the complete monthly cost for your intended workload and backup storage, rather than an unverified performance claim.

Regions include Germany, Finland and the US. Select from the locations currently offered in the catalog when ordering; availability can vary by size and location. Choose a region near your users and consider where your application data needs to be stored.

Start with one application

Begin with a small application and a staging database. Deploy it, configure its domain, test its health endpoint and run a database backup. That gives you a repeatable path before moving production traffic.

The Hostwolf Apps console is where you create projects and manage resources. This blog will cover framework deployments, database recovery, Docker builds, VPS administration and the checks that help keep an application running.
